Alternative Investment Funds (AIF)

Diversification beyond traditional investment avenues

Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) invest in non-traditional asset classes such as private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, and structured strategies. Investments that do not fall under conventional categories like listed equities, bonds, or fixed deposits are generally considered alternative investments.

As per SEBI (Alternative Investment Funds) Regulations, 2012, an AIF refers to a privately pooled investment vehicle structured as a trust, company, body corporate, or LLP. AIFs are regulated and classified by SEBI into three broad categories.
